With the summer racing season now well behind us, many thoroughbred racing fans are turning their attention to the 2009 Breeders Cup at Santa Anita. While I’m expecting an absolutely blockbuster 48 hours in November, I’d rather take a look at some of the top two years olds that many of us expect to be contenders for the 2010 Triple Crown Season.

The big names, as usual, are always connected to past greats and one of the biggest examples of this is illustrated in a two year-old colt named Lentenor. 2nd Brother to Barbaro, Lentenor is so far unraced and I actually think that’s going to help him- especially if he stays off the West Coast Polytrack and does most of his running either back east or in Florida. Not being raced heavily as a two year-old will prolong his career and put him in absolutely prime condition for stakes events through late 2009 and early 2010.
His brother Nicanor is becoming a very solid contenders, but will likely skip the Triple Crown Season as he is showing a bit more favouratism towards the synthetic surfaces as opposed to straight dirt.
